Description

1972 Classic Cards Listed are different team lots and singles These cards are from an interesting, tough-to-find set issued in 1972 by Classic Cards of Flint, Michigan. According to some research, two collectors with impressive card collections (Ed Lotz and Ray Billbrough) were behind the set. To us the cards look somewhat similar to the ultra scarce E300 Plow's Candy cards but we cannot confirm that the photos are identical for players appearing in both sets. The cards or photos used by Classic Cards appear to have originated sometime between 1908 and '09. (This timeline is based on Bresnahan appearing as a Giant for whom he played 1903-08. Wid Conroy, however, is pictured as a Washington third baseman. Conroy did not play with the Senators until 1909.) ~ Four Types ~ I have observed four (4) types within this set: 1st Series - 2-3/4" by 4-1/2" card on medium weight, cream colored stock with numbered checklist on reverse; 30 cards 2nd Series - 2-3/4" by 4-1/4" card on medium weight, cream colored stock with numbered checklist on reverse; 30 cards 3rd Series - 2-3/4" by 4-1/4" card on medium weight, cream colored stock with numbered checklist on reverse; 30 cards 4th Series - 2-3/4" by 4-1/4" card on medium weight, cream colored stock with numbered checklist on reverse; 30 cards Cards from this set are quite scarce (The 2011 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards does not even picture an example). Further, the Standard Catalog states: The set depicts players from 1900-1909 in sepiatone photos printed on thin, cream-colored card stock." Not to quibble but in the interest of accuracy, we consider the card stock to be of a medium thickness or weight - at least the cream-colored stock card we have observed. Whatever be the case, these cards offer an interesting, affordable collectible for collectors of the Deadball Era, Type card enthusiasts, team collectors or anyone wishing to add a favorite or two to his collection . Condition: Excellent/nr mint or better - check the high-resolution scans of front; this is our best example of this card currently in stock. I HAVE SEEN OTHERS COMMONS SELLING AT $4-$5 EACH!!!
